Protocolo de Presencia 2.0

Presence Protocol 2.0

Art Week 2023

Presence Protocol 1.0 marked the first year the initiative was launched.
An initial phase. A system under testing.

The implementation focused on printed material as a vehicle for presence.
A series of postcards featuring the image of an original piece were produced and left in Zona Maco to be freely taken by visitors.

The intention was to infiltrate the public's usual route through a lightweight, portable, and reproducible object.

The lesson was clear.

The circulation of brochures or postcards does not generate a measurable impact, nor does it activate a real record of presence.
The gesture dissolves.
It leaves no trace.
It does not produce a return.

There was no visibility regarding the route the postcards took, their destination, or their subsequent impact.

From this first launch, a decision was made:
activate the Presence Protocol every year, regardless of the stage of the artistic career.

The continuation of the project responds to a dual intention:
Maintain the humility of the gesture and, at the same time, raise the tone of voice through insistence, observation, and adjustment of the system.

Presence Protocol 1.0 functioned as a diagnostic tool.
It allowed us to identify that presence is not printed:
is embodied.

This learning gave rise to the evolution of the system.

Art Week 2024

Presence Protocol 2.0 is an artistic implementation in development.
It is not a traditional exhibition or intervention.
It is a system of appearance.

During Art Week 2024, pieces of the project were inserted and abandoned at strategic points of different fairs, activating a state of unannounced presence within the usual flow of contemporary art.

The pieces operate as physical nodes : they appear, remain, and integrate into the environment without direct institutional mediation.

Activation points

  • Nail — Abandoned unknown installation at unannounced site

  • Acme Salon — Art Agency MX + abandonment at random point

  • Maco Zone — Nordenhaken Gallery area

  • Material — surroundings of Josh Gallery and Campeche Gallery

The protocol does not seek immediate visibility.
Search for registration, detection, and permanence .

Each piece functions as a silent device :
It does not explain, it does not request, it does not indicate authorship.
It simply exists.

Presence Protocol 2.0 remains active.
The system remains under observation.
